With the islands and small transport taken care of, mass transit of goods, people and large scale combat needed to be addressed to fill out the concept of these flying islands. Whales fit well with the sky as ocean theme, and i eventually landed on the Sperm whale(a deadly predator) and the Blue Whale(simply massive) as the main combat and transport variants respectively.
